Walter L. Shogren diary, 1919 Jan. 1-May 2.

A diary kept by Private Walter L. Shogren of St. Paul (Minn.) while stationed in France during World War I. Shogren arrived in the village of Cour-Cheverny near Blois, France (Nov. 27, 1918) with the 1st Company Replacement Depot Battalion, Signal Corps. He was transferred to the 309th Field Signal Battalion, Company C (Jan. 29, 1919) and left France on April 21, 1919. Shogren saw no combat and the diary entries detail noncombat army life including Shogren's work assignments, daily routine, recreational activities, and return voyage to New York (April 21-May 2, 1919).
